Three years to investigate complaints is too long; new board should help.

Gov. Schwarzenegger didn’t waste any time firing most members of the state Board of Registered Nursing after an L.A. Times report Sunday described in frightening detail how the board failed to discipline scores of nurses who endangered patients in their care.
The Times and the nonprofit ProPublica news organization found that, on average, “it took more than three years to investigate and discipline errant nurses.” The average for other states is one year.
Schwarzenegger found that time frame unacceptable and acted quickly Monday to replace four members of the board, including its president. Read More…
