Nursing initiative will address future of healthcare, nursing shortage

With an aging baby boomer population and an increasingly desperate nursing shortage, the future of health care in America is an uncertain one.

Healthcare settings that employ more nurses are found to have fewer medical errors, lower rates of hospital-acquired infections, shorter hospital stays and lower patient mortality, studies say – making it particularly troubling that the number of full-time nurses in America is expected to decrease to half a million by 2025.

To address this situation, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) has teamed up with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) to launch an initiative on the future of nursing. Read More…
