Scientists have discovered the reason why women find it difficult to conceive later in life – they have used up 90 per cent of their “ovarian reserve” by the age of 30.

While they may continue to produce eggs throughout their 30s and 40s, the reservoir of potential eggs from which they are taken has shrunk to almost nothing, it suggests.
As the body chooses the best eggs from the reserve, the likelihood is that the quality of the eggs will suffer as you get older increasing the difficulty of conception and the risk of an unhealthy baby....

Syracuse, NY — The nursing job market in New York state, long thought to be recession-proof, is starting to feel the effects of the economic downturn, according to a study.

With unemployment in double digits it’s very easy to get discouraged if you’re out of work and looking for a new job. However there are at least a few industries out there that might be considered recession-proof.
According to a recent survey by Forbes magazine, health care is the most solid industry offering careers with job security. Registered nurses topped the list as the number one most recession proof job, in part because there is a nursing shortage across the country. Read More…

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist has immediately suspended state licensure requirements for traveling U.S. nurses, who have valid licenses in their home states or territories, and who want to work in Florida. The suspension is slated for 90 days.
The governor said in an executive order this week that the move was needed to cover a temporary nursing shortage that was created because many Florida nurses are in Haiti to help the recovery effort from the Jan. 12 earthquake. Read More…

Saskatchewan’s nursing vacancies are filling up, thanks to recruitments strategies and an increased number of applications from Alberta, says the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses president.
Seventy per cent of nursing vacancies have been filled in Saskatchewan, said SUN president Rosalee Longmoore.
“I was speaking with someone from the Saskatoon Health Region in early September and that individual did indicate that they were seeing more applications from nurses from Alberta,” said Longmoore. “I’ve just actually heard from some of the new graduates...

LONDON (SHARECAST) – A worldwide shortage of medical staff helped Healthcare Locums report consistent month on month revenue and profit growth in all divisions throughout 2009 with further improvement expected this year.
